Ranked matchmaking?

Simple as that: would you like to see ranked matchmaking system in AA:PG similar to the ones in CS:GO, LoL, Dota2 etc.?

I don't think AAPG has big enough playerbase. In theory I like the idea but it would simply not work I'm afraid.
Theory and reality are not that different. In theory.

A matchmaking system equalizing the skilllevel of the players that are playing together. Sure this gets the win ratio closer to 1:1 than in games without such a matchmaking system, but the same can be achieved with a good auto-teambalancer that includes skill as one of its factors.
    -
I admit one of problems could be that groups could be splited in such a system, but finally such a balancer could also includes factors like team affiliation. Finally even if the auto-teambalancer will no get all players that equally balanced, however it keeps the teams more mixed with higher skilled players and it doesn't undermine the community driven servers so strong.

the game doesn't draw a big enough crowd. it is bad enough we have SFO servers filled with players with 300 ping almost all day long...
    -
the best compromise for matchmaking we can attempt would be some official low honor servers. but likely, since they are official they will be hard to consistently populate... a more reliable solution might come from some clans advertising that they are running low honor servers...
    -
as for non-new players with high honor that aren't exactly the greatest players... they do their own "matchmaking"... they find out who on the server is good, and then they join that team to increase their chances of surviving and winning... and to avoid ego-shattering death... the age old "if you can't beat'em, join'em" type...
    -
others go the other way. they'd rather have a challenge so they see who's good and join the opposite team to keep things interesting...
    -
personally i'd love it if more good players played this game and wanted to play against me instead of with me... so i could pick the opposite team as them. but usually i am the first to pick a team when a map loads, i get a bunch of cocktails on my team chasing the free win and dodging the extra deaths, and the remainder is a bunch of turkey to shoot...
    -
it might help if the server auto selected which team you join instead of letting these fellas all jump on the same team before the 1st round of each map... just saying.. take that toy away.

I just wanted to say that you've been on point on most if not every post i've read from you shifty on these forums. And I want to second the low honor servers. They used to exist in the older aa2 days. There would be a 15 honor limit to the servers (new players started at 10 honor for those not familiar) for at least the US Army official servers, but an option for server owners/managers to set a limit of max honor for players to play in their server

I think it would be great but it's not possible if you look at the playerbase. You should add "not compatible with AAPG yet" to the poll @SithHunter

We've had several threads that brought up this topic in the old forums. Sadly none of them ended well...

Agreed with the other posts -- could be great, probably not enough players to fully support a ranked system (though I wonder about the validity of all the assumptions happening there), see past topics etc etc

it is possible to wait until people pick sides and select the weaker team. not that I care either way, just not the first time I've seen someone say that stacking is a thing and then absolve themselves because they pick first.
    Hello sir, excellent accuracy.

How do you teamstack in csgo? I'm confused.

    Premade teams > random teams.

I don't think that it's a good idea to implement ranked matchmaking if there's not enough ppl to play. It requires a huge playerbase we don't have right now - it might come with time and then I'm up for it!

BUT, arranging skill groups'd be a nice idea :) basing on player's k/d etc. and an option to scramble teams'd work.

Never really had problems playing solo or duo in CS:GO, about the same win percentage.

Only real advantage is to not have people shouting at you and insulting you in russian but that's about it.

Never really bothered me while playing. You guys must be very sensitive.
  • keep finding this discussion funny, if people would just start not to honor stack (usually the high honors do that, but have seen lower lvl's also doing it), i like to be with my clanmates in the same team, but i usually try to pick the weaker side to play, much more of a challenge, there is a scramble function in the game... use it, it might make the game more fun

Only time a scramble comes up is when the teams are stacked and everyone on the winning team votes no lol

So would be at least 70% of AA:PG community if we had something like in CS:GO which makes that argument worthless then.

Play with a premade frequently and everyone will rank up until the premade goes 50%/50% against random teams.

Define "low rank" ? Matchmaking systems don't put 70% of people in the bottom categories.

    Look at SC2, for example:
    http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/9067510/Heart_of_the_Swarm_League_Percentages-3_11_2013#c-8200130116
8% of players go into bronze, the lowest category. Gold, the mid-tier category, has the 28th to 60th percentiles of players.

CSGO does a similar setup with their ranks. The bottom 16% of players are split into the 6 silver ranks. 16% to 50% are GN1 to GN3. The 70th percentile is upper MG1.

Gonna throw in LoL as another example: http://www.lolsummoners.com/stats
About 70% at low elo and that's what happens on popular games. Alot of people playing will result in alot of low ranked players.
This was about "teamstacking" in CS:GO and me not experiencing that as an issue revealed me as a low rank player. If however the majority is low ranked and this isn't an issue on low ranks how is the system that bad then?

Regarding the original topic, why would you even need to stick to the CS:GO matchmaking? What about making it solo- or duo-queue only?

Stacking does not count if you don't win. No such thing as stacking teams to lose. Clan playing on same team does not equal stacking. Stacking only pertains to stacking all high skill players on one side. In your example high skill players were well distributed, or arguably stacked to your side. You are just trolling.
