Actually, it wouldn't. It could be interpreted as AA2.x was the best of the series, nothing more, nothing less.

Just some additional thoughts on roles. Do roles need to make a comeback? Absolutely! However, I think that the old way of doing it will do nothing to help the game.
Old game was something like this:
    SQL - FTL R R AR - FTL R R AR - S R R R
    or
    SQL - FTL G R AR - FTL G R AR - S R S R
    etc.

Now who can tell me the difference between all of these soldiers? Ok, AR gets an LMG, S gets a sniper rifle, G gets a grenade launcher... and what else? SQL vs. FTL vs. R? Not much difference except maybe being able to say "attack here" and then no one goes there anyway.

The next game needs to make each role unique. Not just weapons but they all need to have some sort of ability that complements each other. Something that allows each player in the squad to complement the rest. The Army can figure out what that should be. Either way, a player who decides to lone wolf should be hurt not because of some artificial penalty for going it alone, but because he is without his teammates to complement him. I don't know what that would be again, but it's something to think about.

Also, maybe you shouldn't be just tied down to a single thing either. For example, if someone picks FTL they should have a few options on the type(s) of abilities he has. Same goes for a Rifleman or any other role. Maybe the rifleman slot can choose to be a grenadier, a medic, some sort of robotics specialist, or some other types of specialties. This would allow teams to customize their squads based on their strengths/play style and the map. You can also use this to integrate the ability to pick Army heroes (I'm going to keep pushing this) to roll out as.

Haha. I read it similarly. It has to come out in 2 years... It will be 6-9 months for us to acquire the talent necessary, and that leaves us with about a year to develop a great game. Face palm.

I will note that PUBG, while it was the beginning of the BR fad so it's a bit different, is an example of an unfinished game being released that blew up. There are also plenty of other "early access" games that have done pretty well. The important thing is that the core gameplay is solid/nailed down, it is relatively bug-free, has good net code (which PUBG didn't have), is well optimized (which PUBG didn't have), and you follow through with putting out frequent updates to keep building upon the game. The method that they used for AAPG wasn't all bad (not that I think they'll do it again) in putting out an unfinished beta and then building upon it. It's just that a lot of people didn't like it enough to stick around. If you create a great core that people can see has tons of potential and the devs quickly build upon then you can easily release an unfinished game that's successful. What we saw with AA3 was a game that was released, was super buggy, and had tons of unfinished stuff that was never finished. Of course that was going to fail (not even getting into the stark differences between AA3 vs. AA2).

On another note, we're getting near the end of 1Q. Anything interesting in AA Dev land?

I didn't get to write the rules... but they tell me that I have to abide by them. I think the term, "or else..." was used.

When the game goes covert, that's when it goes bad, at least since AA3.

    Hello to all!
I think that one of the best important things about the new game is the servers. In this game this have good things and bad, because in places like Usa and Europe there are too enough servers, officials and privates, but this is a problem for the rest of areas.
I think that maybe the game don't focus in all world, but Its hard to get a lot numbers of players if you see areas like Oceania, Japan, Latin America, or South Africa. If here they havent enough servers, it cant be possible that they continue playing, because they have a very high ping in the next close servers.

Agreed. I guess that openness that we saw for a few months was too good to last, eh?

So does that mean we're going to get little to no updates regarding the next game until alpha/beta time frame (or later)? Are there any plans at all to release little snippets of the work in process along the way?

I know, but it'd be nice to know whether it's even worth to check out these forums at this point. When hollywood was around we could at least come here and hope that there may be an update here and there. If we're going back to the pre-hollywood days, then it may as well be "see you in 2020 or 2021."

I think before anyone asks for an AA2 anything you need to read all 55 pages of this thread...
