You can run a LAN server that other players on your local network can play on.

Your question implies that you're thinking about this a certain way. Why do you want to do it without port forwarding?

Could you tell me a little bit about your network setup? If you tell me what you're doing with the port forwarding maybe I can help.

What type of internet connection? What modem, router, etc?

The idea with port forwarding is to expose just certain 'channels' on your server to the internet by passing them through your network without exposing the whole computer. (That would be DMZ.) Most routers ought to be able to do it, and it's possible you are merely misconfiguring it.

Let's see what's going on and if I can help, I will.

If you have a cable modem or something feeding internet into your own router, you may have a situation where the signals to the ports are stopped at the modem. This would mean that nothing you do on the router will work until you do an IP Passthrough on your modem.

There are other issues where a service provider forbids you running a server and therefore blocks you. That could be happening too...

I actually have TWO internet IPs from my provider, one for my modem, and one for my personal router. This allows me to use my own router instead of the one they built into their crappy modem, and pass the internet external IP in all the way to where my router interfaces with my internal network. I have been running an AAPG server this way for around a year.

So, if you can provide some details, I'm still hopeful we can help you.
