Server Admins -- How hard would it be to set your servers up using a port other than 7778? Would it be a problem, cause other problems or would it be a matter of simply changing a line item?

I'm just wondering... and hoping that it would be easy to do.

I can not join any server that is using port 7778. The port is open (according to mediacom), everything is forwarded correctly (again, according to mediacom when they logged into the router)... everyone seems to think win10 broke something (but so far it seems to just be me experiencing this particular problem.. so maybe a combo of my system and win10?).

At any rate, would it be possible for servers to use another port? I can join ones using 8777, 7798, 7788, etc... the problem is that those servers are empty.

My only other option is to just forget playing this game until I can either get another computer or get another copy of win7 (my win7 key isn't even in my system anymore... ??). Though, I've got too many things on this computer that I no longer have access to reinstalling (that I don't want to lose)... so it'll probably be a while before I can get another computer.

Any help? Change a port? =)

I dunno. I'm out of options now.

No one that I know, including myself, has had to configure ports on a client running the game in order to join a server. The only people that have to configure ports are people running a server and trying to let the data get OUT.

If you can't connect, it's not going to be because of what port the server is on. Too many others have it working fine. It will most likely be a firewall issue on your computer, or your provider is blocking.

Is AAGame.exe allowed through your firewall in Windows?

How do you connect to the internet?

What kind of setup are you running inside your house once you get the internet? Is it from modem to router to your computer, or...?

Do you get any error messages?

(There's more stuff to ask, but we can start with this.)

Running Windows 8.1 here, and have Mediacom ISP, with no connection problems. As Keebler suggested, I would bet its a firewall problem!

    Thanks for the replies ..

I spoke with Mediacom many times and they assure me the port isn't blocked (that it is open and it is being forwarded correctly). I've allowed exceptions to the firewall for aagame.exe and aalauncher.exe (i've even turned the firewall off).

I connect via ethernet cable to the modem/router.

Directly from the modem/router via ethernet cable to my computer.

I never get any error messages. When I click a server running on port 7778, I hear a noise (like a "selection noise" you would get when clicking on a server) and then nothing happens...

Using "open" command doesn't work either .. same thing happens (without the selection noise), but will work on servers using ports other than 7778. For example, "open 162.251.165.17" won''t open, but "open 162.251.165.17:7788" will. However, "open 104.243.45.226" won't open and neither will "open 104.243.45.226:7778".

I'm running win10 Hawk, [Dev]K0$H3R thinks it has something to do with win10. I think something somewhere deep in win10 for some reason is blocking port 7778.. maybe.. I dunno..

Alright. Interesting stuff! Sorry for all the questions..........

First, you shouldn't have to "open" a port to play. Only to run a server. Why are they checking if YOUR port is open? You aren't running a server, but trying to join someone ELSE'S port 7778. Can they see behind your router all the way to your computer on port 7778, or just to the router?

It is possible to have the Windows firewall block outbound traffic on a port that is otherwise allowed for an App, but if you've done it with the firewall off, then I don't see that.

Port Filtering on the router looks like it would do it, but....?

    From my Cisco modem setup:
Applications and Gaming Tab / Port Filtering

Use the Port Filtering page to configure and enable TCP and UDP port filters. These filters prevent a range of TCP/UDP ports from accessing the Internet.

You can also prevent PCs from sending outgoing TCP/UDP traffic to the WAN on specific IP port numbers.

This filter is not IP address-or MAC address-specific. The system blocks the specified port ranges for all PCs.

Note: If you are not familiar with the advanced settings detailed in this section, contact your service provider before you attempt to change any of the wireless residential gateway default advanced port filtering settings.

Click the Save Settings button to apply your changes or the Cancel Changes button to cancel.

Did you try setting up access/filtering/forwarding in your router/modem setup and accidentally do this?

    Anyone else add anything?
    :(

Is your Windows 10 fully updated? Any other games/programs with the same problem?

Hey Keebler and Hawk, thanks for the replies ... And don't worry about the questions, I'll answer them as best I can. =)

Keebler, well, it was mentioned that maybe port 7778 is closed off on my isp's side of it, so I called and made sure that it was open. While they were on the phone with me, they (called so far 3 times to verify =) made sure the router was forwarding the port correctly (which they said I had it set up correctly). I'm not sure if they could see all the way to my computer, just that the port was open and that the forwarding was set correctly to my address...

The admin part of this particular router is not very in depth. The section dealing with port forwards is very straight forward/limited. Basically: Device (my computer), Application (aagame.exe), Protocols (tcp/udp), Start Port (7778), End Port (7778), Target Port (7778), Action (option to delete the forward).

Hawk, my win10 is up to date, as far as the system is concerned (update says it is). I don't have any issues with other games, but I don't really play other games... I use to play SWTOR. I've tried Insurgency and CS:GO.

My only hope at this stage of the game is that you fine folks will use a port other than 7778.. maybe 8777 or 7788 or 7798.. or something.. =) .. I just want to play.. =/

One more thing you could try, is turning off Windows defender.

    Oh.

You may have tied up 7778 to use as an outgoing server port. Port Forwarding is not done to go out and PLAY games, but to run a server. Could you disable your port forward setting on the router/modem, and then try to join a server, after making sure the change has been applied?

You don't need to port forward to play, or shouldn't. None of US do anyway..... :o

ALSO: 7778 is supposed to be UDP, not TCP/UDP.

Defender is off, still a no go.

I removed the port forwards, applied, cycled the router and still a no go.

I appreciate the help guys. I don't know what to do now. I guess the only thing to do is try to catch the servers using something other than 7778 when folks are on em.

As a last resort you could try this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/28609/how-can-i-tell-what-is-listening-on-a-tcpip-port-in-windows/

Sorry couldn't get the URL link code to work on this tablet =)

Using the steps in the above link, you should be able to find out what program is using/blocking port 7778. I read on another forum where someone was trying to host a web server using Windows 10, and a service running was using and partially blocking port 80.

We've all been talking about this. Is it possible some other program wants to use 7778?

    : shrug :

    Dude, this is pretty unusual.

Well the forum post I was reading was talking about the "world wide web publishing" service hogging port 80, in Windows 10. After stopping the service, and then disabling it, port 80 magically opened. =)

I wouldn't doubt that some Windows 10 versions have other services using different ports.

Well ive been answering on the more less paid attention thread.
Try to listen for the port....you can run wireshark and see what happens when you try running aapg.

The most common thing I wanna try is knowing the model/name of your modem so that we can disable internal routing.
Bhop is a string of jumps with no interruptions.
