I use the M4 regularly and I already know how to use it, and Im interested in starting to learn how to use the m16.
I tried it out multiple times and I do terrible with it.
Does anybody know any tricks/rules to use the m16 ?

I don't use the M16 as a scoped weapon, because of some issues with dual render scopes. For this reason I can only give tips if you are using it as a Rifleman, not a DMR.
1) The M16 is more of a (longer range) precision weapon. For some reason I find that I can shoot it more accurately than the M4. Because I'm using it on greater distances than the M4, I always put a red dot on it. It gives me more precision and the additional speed from the ironsights is not that beneficial at those ranges.
2) Use single fire. I find the recoil is much easier to control this way, basically you can shoot like a laser beam. Of course you'll need a decent trigger-finger for this, but if you are precise, the rate of fire doesn't matter that much. Sometimes I use burstfire as 'panic mode' when the enemy gets too close and I'm low on health. Single shot also helps me to conserve ammo.
3) Try to go for headshots. This helps with ammo conservation as well. With the M4 I often find myself running low on ammo, but it basically never happens with the M16. Because you average shots to kill will be lower, you won't feel yourself constantly needing to reload a full mag. I feel confident with 15-20 bullets in my mag using the M16, but I need at least 25 in the M4. But of course a bodyshot is better than nothing, so if you see someone running to cover and you don't have time to line up the shot precisely, just shoot them where you can.
4) This concludes from the things I mentioned above: keep your distance. Don't challenge shotguns, M249s and M4s at very close range. Try to kill them from a medium distance, or if you absolutely have to go face-to-face against for example an M4 in close range, don't rush them. Try to hold angles instead. Or if you decide to rush, make sure you aim is dead on target, because you won't have more than 1-2 shots against a decent player.
This is a pretty unforgiving way to use the gun, but this is how I like it. You can't really go spraying the body if you miss your first 1-2 bullets like you could with an M4. But in skilled hands this 'setup' can be devastating for the enemy team especially if you have good map knowledge.
I'm pretty sure the 1 burst bodyshot kill was a bug. Some bullets used to count twice until they fixed this issue. The M16 never had the damage for 1 burst bodyshots.
I do agree with you about the old burst: it was a lot better to play with.
