Map Theft

So heres the deal. EG Insanity took my map Tropical Island and published it under his own name. I give full approval to anyone who wants to use anything out of my maps. I have always been supportive to anyone who needs help with map creation.

However, I never would have throught that someone would sink as low as to publish someone elses map as his own. That's a low blow to all us UMM makers and the hours of work we put in.

Yes I agree , last night I found this map published under EG Insanity's name . I talked to him and gave him a piece of my mind , he has since removed it. I think we need to find a way to prevent this from happening in the future.
Its a shame that some people are this ignorant or shameless but there you have it.

Sorry to intrude if I am.. But my brother (Insanity) Did not mean any harm. He is only 15 he does not think properly sometimes. But anyways i just got back from Camp Dawson, West Virginia to come home to his being depressed because all he wanted to do was see how to get Usermademap onto my servers. (Don't know how he got access but oh well). But like i said he didn't mean any harm and he has removed it. Because i forced him to. But thank you for also bringing this back to my attention.

Atleast next time he maybe could put something like "**I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS MAP**" That could of possibly worked or not, who knows. but at least its all taken care of on my side. Hope you guys have fun with everything.

Well be that as it may, what he done was wrong and when I spoke to him it was not a 15 year old I spoke with on my TS so, whatever the case it is wrong to take another persons map and call it your own . So if he feels shamed then maybe he should.

I guess cooking maps when you publish them is the easiest way to avoid theft. No one can open your maps in the editor if you do so.

It was my understanding that you could nor should no longer cook maps as the new compression method handled that?

I always check the box in the publisher. Seems to make the file size much smaller.

The DEVs have the ability to edit the steam workshop. If you find an instance of one of your pieces stolen:

There's also a report function on the workshop.
Report any stolen maps there, and send in a ticket.
We will take care of the situation. Map theft won't be tolerated.
The game wasn't made exactly to my specifications, so I feel it's broken.

Might be a good idea to help the brother by pointing out how he could get the map onto the server while still remaining under the original author....

Regardless cooking or not, a map can still be opened in the editor saved under a different name and republished. Now, when a map gets/got cooked/compressed, you couldn't/ can't take any custom assets from it. Think of it being locked.

But yeah, a map can still be stolen, bit harder to modify when cooked/compressed though.

Well he knows now Roach and it's taken care of... Even if you said you wouldn't tell anyone if he removed it... that develops trust issues and makes everyone in that look bad.. trust me i've had experience with that before. Keep your word.

Listen , you act as though I done something wrong to your brother there . He is the one who stole another persons map and you expect that to be just overlooked because you say he doesn't know better?
He knew perfectly well what he done, so don't expect trust from me , I owe him nothing.
And just for the record the person that I spoke to in my TS was no 15 year old kid it was a grown man (probably you) for all I know. The point is he was wrong to do it and even if he was 15 how old do you really think someone needs to be to know that it was wrong.

What? I never said you did anything wrong. I'm just saying you lied to him. And he is 15 and you spoke with him, not I. And he knows it was wrong. I never said that either.

Don't tell him how your 15 year-old brother sounds please. He clearly knows better than you.

Closing this down before it becomes a big fight.

    Remember:

If you or someone you know has their work stolen send us a report and report it on the workshop.
The game wasn't made exactly to my specifications, so I feel it's broken.
