I wish I knew more about this stuff. "Programming, where have you been all my life?!" :)

I've found I'm very intrigued by some of the stuff I've been learning, but I sadly figure it'll take me another whole lifetime to learn enough. So, I guess I fall into the 'why the heck am I posting in this thread' category. Sorry, Doba.

I do remember some of those mutator packs and stuff in the old, old Unreal Tournament from way back. I bet 'some' of it is possible with kismet, but....? I figure the Army would have to open the game code for mods to add on or 'hook' but I don't see them doing that, honestly.

Basic programming only takes a few months to learn. Try the book Programming : Principles and practices using c++ to start.

I wouldn't recommend starting with c++ even if you're interested in game development. Usually Java or C is great for basics, looking into some scripting languages first doesn't hurt either. Codecademy is a great website to get some exercises and practice.

i think that the ability to mod like you can in unreal has been taken out (aapg), i know you used to be able to mod in unreal tournament , used to play with skin mods on your character

Well, maybe the game devs don't actually have to open up their code - After all, they don't open the code to those who dedicate their time to making hacks.
