Our Gameserver
Hi All
Just wanted to ask a question or two so here it goes:
Our server Scandinavian Knights at ip: 5.199.133.69:7778 has for the past month or 2 been quite empty even if alot of us =[SK]= Guys are on.... before this period there was no problems with empty server so here is my question
Why are people not visiting us or our server?
Have we done anything wrong against some people or??
Plz speak up if u know anything.....

I love this community!
I have put umm's on our second server and no one joins but our main server without umm's is always full.
Its a real shame because there are some great usermademaps out there.
I personally don't think having a big list of active UMM's on a server is very good. A new person to a server has to wait too long to download a bunch of maps. I'd like to see no more than 5 or 10 ACTIVE maps on there at a time. Eventually, with a maplist that changes from day to day, a player will have all the maps without sitting there for half an hour or more waiting...
Also, I think the "Join Off Friend" problem on Steam is hurting us.

Wasn't there a tool at some point to see what maps the server had running? I can't remember. Anyway, I have 17GB of UMMs, and I have NO IDEA if I can delete any of them. How can we tell?
I'd like to see the client only download the map that is being played and warn you when you don't have all the maps in the rotation, or whatever. I think right now it feels too much like it's out of the players control, and therefor they don't join.

Yes yes exactly. Having same problem. Cant dare join beer me server because I have to download 10 umm to play a umm I already have. The open <ip address> trick is no longer working.

If other servers are using UMMs, they should just put a few (5-10 max) and go from there. If you want to add new ones, then replace the old ones. Maps can be big. I personally have 232 maps on my computer totaling 21.7GB. That means that on average each map is about 100MB. Using that average, 10 maps is about 1 GB. This means that in order to play in your server (if the person doesn't have the maps on their computer already), people must download 1GB of data.
They have enough people to get the server going and lots of regulars, but there are also plenty of new people who come in and like the custom maps and stick with the server.
You need a good 10+ people regulars who will be on at any moment to fill up your server to get it going, otherwise it's extremely difficult.
Even with stock maps, it's not super easy. Just take a look at how many empty servers there are.
I wish people would be willing to play other maps, but I also agree that more then 5 or 6 umm's for most any server other then beerme is enough!! I have heard from plenty of people that say I would join to play that one map but I don't want to dl 20 of them just to check out the one...
Guess the bottom line really is, Personal Preference!!
On Steam I query 321 servers. 295 if I exclude passworded servers. 281 if I exclude the bunch that are listed as "Initializing."
At 1:45pm, 45 have users playing. 8 are full.
FLO -> 155 servers, 37 have users playing, 6 are full.
BDX -> 126 servers, 8 have users playing, 2 are full.
I'd assume if I queried around 6PM the numbers would look a bit different, but still we have WAY more servers than are necessary. I do wonder what percentage of those empty servers are run by people who actively use their server on a regular basis.
Why are there even 140 BDX servers when you'll rarely find more than 20 populated?
Why do people buy bugattis in the US if they are not allowed to drive it full speed!? Because they can....
