Authentication offline?

I can't seem to get beyond the authentication dialogue today. After I login it kicks me back to the main menu with the 'login' button at the top of the menu.

Seemed to be caused by Steam. I'd tried relaunching the game a few times but that didn't fix. Once I exited and relaunched steam then relaunched the game it worked straight away.
