Workshop/ Map downloads in server browser issues

I was wondering if there is was any way to stop the incessant workshop map updates. I went in yesterday afternoon and downloaded everything so when I go on at night I can just hop on easily. Then just two hours later I had a 500mb download again. Is there any way to stop this from happening w/out having to unsubscribe from all the maps individually? Also in the server browser, when you want to join a server with UMMs, you have to download every map on the server before you can join. I really loved how it was in the beta when had the option of downloading all or just the map you wanted to play at that time. Any chance of going back to that method or showing me a way to get around this i may not be aware of?

Yes, this has been discussed and you are right. Here is a temp solution - if you have the map the server is currently playing and want to join the server without downloading the other map server has,
Press ~ and type in open ip_address_of_server
If you single click a server, you can see its ip address at bottom right.
Example -
open 127.0.0.0:8887

Ya...you can stop a game update, but not workshop content, from what I can see...
