Bullet sounds are not synchronised with bullet count

The sound of bullet fire from the weapons is not always synchronised with the remaining round count.
I've occasionally witnessed this with the M4 and the M249. If I switch to M249 for example, and push the mouse button, I hear 4 rounds discharging, and the bullet counter is at 99.
