Rural open space maps

Since AAPG has emerged from Beta, the choice of maps is reduced to a handful of dreary urban scenarios with little space for manoeuvring and every corner a CQB. I'm an ageing slow witted guy who liked the open space rural maps with cover and room to manoeuvre. The style of the current maps is a huge number of Bridge and Inner Hospital which are places for the trigger happy and good luck to them, but I rather liked bushes, trees and rocky gullies. Not wanting to starting any flaming or arguments about the qualities of the CBQ style maps but just wondered if anyone knew whether the rural style maps were likely to be offered in the near future.

And as a foot note, back in the very early days, Bridge was a much more interesting map with a choice of routes and no unrealistic flags necessary. I preferred most of the maps in AA1 to what we have today. Now the graphics are real but the environments are training ground. Is that being PC as if armies didn't fight real battles?

Once things get going here, the User Made Map community has a lot to offer in the way of map variety. I think you'll find something to your liking! :)

It would be nice if the Devs would finally put out a few official open type maps. I've never been a huge fan of them, but for the sake of variety there should be a few. Plus, even though in the past I never liked playing them terribly much, it was also a matter of having to spend hours playing that outdoor map. With map rotations it wouldn't be so bad.

    Open map contest? :)

Inner Hospital is becoming something like your favorite song. You play it over and over again until you get sick of it. I'm just about there.

Wasn't Overload part of a contest? I really like that new map. Let's have another so we have more map options, Please?

Overload was a contest winner and is a great map but it fits the pattern of the official maps; urban, run down, dull bleak weather and lots of rooms and corners to bump into Dead Eye [TOS Violation] the quick trigger man. Where are those brightly lit semi tropical woodlands and river valleys with caves and rocky outcrops with not a rusting bullet riddled Fiat car or Humvie in sight and real long range sniping and real fire suppressing automatic arcs of fire. Idyllic dream. :)

They really should be having a mapping contest like last time. Perhaps with the release of the new workshop publishing patch.

Hey, I am all for some heavy bush maps like in tropical or forestation areas. Imagine having to peek around every tree or bush ahead of you. :o

I always hope that people of influence read comments in enthusiast forums but I suspect that they aren't avid readers of the pleas of the faithful!

You should try my Rusneyev map, it has all the things you mentioned. People either love it or hate because of all the things you mentioned. lol.

The good things about these forums are they aren't "enthusiast" forums, but our official forums, so yes, we read all the post here... We have a few outdoor longer range maps, but they are not the most popular (Cold Front and Slums).

As Keebler said, there is a wide variety of maps that users have made with the mission editor and you should take a look at the workshop on Steam to see what has been done. We are working on getting the Editor publishing using Steam's new method and will have an update next week that will allow all the maps to be re-published to work on the current version of the game.

As Keebler750 says, the UMM community has a huge variety including his own All Terrain extract map.

For the love of God. NO more use of the words AA2 or AA3 maps. Most of us loved them, it's what we grew up on... What we only played for the most part. But seriously enough. [TOS Violation] I mad CSAR because it was one of , if not the best map in any game. But I honestly think it's time to put them behind us and move on. AA2 was a different game. I still think in time aapg might be like that, but it still needs work to get there. I don't mind AA2 style maps..... But please No more remakes, ports, similarities .....ect.

It's time to make some great maps for this game so it has its own identity.

We already lost many good level designers because most want only AA2 maps.

A good friend and fellow level designer Drecks left because of this.... He's the guy that made Overload, the map contes winner.

He had many ideas of making some fun/ great maps for this game.

But he got tired of hearing Aa2 this aa3 that.

Tbh, I agree with him and I myself is feeling like that too.

I think it's time to embrace the new game and what comes with it down the road, and not what has done already.

Support your community mappers, they are your longevity for this game. Long after the Dev's have moved on, the community maps will be what keeps it going.

Just look at any game that had mod support.

    Help us help you!! :)

Unfortunately, regardless of AA2/AA3 remakes, mapping is in a holding pattern right now anyway. No one can play them and they've never been all too easy to get working in the open beta. I hope that we get something soon that makes UMM's playable and easier for anyone to get them working.

Left because of no feedback and NO support , except AA2/3 map talk. Keep in minds before taking them down from SWS , he had 3 more maps besides Overload and was willing to do comp map too.

It should also be noted that digging into a map and trying to do it right is A LOT of work (and I was only doing trees and rocks!)

It's really tough considering hardly ANYONE provides the kind of feedback to properly finish a map.

    IMO.

Maps really need to be 'beta tested' and optimized.

I'm not criticising anyone in the UMM community, nor do I underestimate what it takes to make a successful map, but all I asked was if we could expect some more open terrain rural maps to compliment the urban melancholia that all the current playable maps offer. I would love to see bigger open terrain maps with longer play times and less of this frantic rushing around to finish a map within such a short time. The only reason I mentioned older maps in the first place was to say that then there was more choice of scenario and terrain and now they all look alike; great design work but all similar to play and look at. Lots of interior mazes and very short ranges. Perhaps this is how it is going to be for the foreseeable future, but I'm not getting the buzz from this game that I used to get and with the much higher level of realism and superior graphics, that's sad. The shooting training range is the closest to open terrain that you get in AAPG. ;) Looking forward to seeing if things change.
