Having problem with copying opt in version to brothers pc

Hi there all :) i'm the new guy on the forum.

I love the game and seeing videos of the opt in version and having a couple of friend praying it now i desidide to join the fun and opt in. Now there is no problem with my opt in and it runs well but because i'm not on the fastest internet line it take time to download, i though okay i will just copy the game over to my brothers pc and he can then play the opt it as well but for some reason it checks the files and then starts from the beginning, downloading the whole opt in.

I have in the past done this to other games with success and there was no problem, i'm going to list what i have tried so far:

1. what i did at first was backup the old one (because we play in a clan that is still on the old one) and then i override the installed version with the new opt in version, then i went in to steam and opted him in and i though okay the files will validate then it will skip all the downloads because all the file are in the americas army folder in steam, But instead it started to download the whole opt in from the start :(

2. i then restored the old version and reset the game to none opt in so i can start from scratch and going back to the old version validated the files in a second and he was good to go, so i opted back in and let the game start downloading for a couple of kb and then i quite steam totally and copied the files over and then went back in to steam, it just continued to download from where it last was :(

3. Then i tried to validate the game and it said that there is over 2700 files that can't be validated so it will need to download it again

Can someone help me figure out how to get my brother on the op in without having to download the whole opt in on his side as well?

Thank you for reading this long post, hopefully this can help others as well if we get it to work.

    Welcome to the forum!

You have to Restore the files back into Steam with it Opt'ed in. Then Steam will see it as valid and not download. I do this all the time between computers. Just move the Backup folder to somewhere on his computer and point to it with Restore once you opt him in.

    :)

Also, I set auto updates to something like 4am to 5am so it never does a download without me knowing it. It will just stay "Queued."

  • Thank you for the warm welcome

Also thank you for pointing me in the right direction, so i'll explain exactly what i did:
    1. i restored my brothers game to stock version just to be safe
    2. I went to my steam where i have the opt in version and i created a backup with steams backup system (righy click and go to proprieties, then backup)
    3. Once the backup was done i copied the backup files to his pc
    4. Then on his steam i opted him in (i also set mine and his downloads to not start automatically) and from the main menu at the top left where it said "steam" i went under the option backup and restore
    5. i selected restore and went through the process, where it said browse you simply browse for the backup file you copied previously and you select the folder which the game is in
    6. continue through the steps and steam will install the game for you

Maybe this will help other as well, Big thanks to Keebler750 for the help in the right direction.
