Launcher Stop working

Good afternoon,

I have AAPG and it worked fine, decided to Opt into the newer release. Once finished I tried to open up the game and at the beginning of the first loading sequence a pop up comes up and says "Americas Army Launcher has stopped working". After a few attempts I tried to revert back to AAPG. Once the download had finished I attempted to open it up, and the same problem now exists. I tried deleting it from steam and my computer. After doing so I re-downloaded the game again via steam. Once finished I tried to open the game and same problem continues to occur. How can I fix this issue? Thanks for the help.

I'll try, how do I go about that. However, pb did download and did a "check" and it came out ok.
So I went into the folder pbsetup.zip, updated and added Americas Army to it, and no change. Still cant play the game.

Time to try the good old 'removal of config files' trick I think, it's been known to remedy many an issue :)

(NOTE - If you make maps in the map editor and wish to keep them, then please let me know before you follow the guide.. as you will have to do something slightly different, if not.. then read on :) )

Firstly close/exit the game (if its open), then go to..

Start > Documents > My Games

Inside the 'My Games' folder you will see a folder called "America's Army Proving Grounds" Go ahead and delete that folder from your computer by right clicking it and choosing delete.

You will also want remove/delete the folder called "America's Army" from here..

Start > Documents > America's Army (< delete this one)

Removing both the "America's Army Proving Grounds" folder from my games.. and the "America's Army" folder from Documents will ensure a completely fresh slate.

After you have removed them, fire up the game and hope for the best, don't worry about deleting the folders or breaking anything by doing so.. as the game will generate new files and folders when you launch it (that's the whole point of doing it) :)

    Good Luck!

    P.S.. Consider re-downloading the opt-in.. its better :)

P.P.S.. If none of this works it could be that UMM's are at fault (Custom maps downloaded from the workshop) in which case you will need to unsubscribe from them all and remove them from your computer. This is something that happens when you either have too many custom maps installed or (speculative) the author is not keeping his map(s) up-to-date along with new game versions.

Ok, well thank you for the help! I did try it, and I get the same pop up and my game crashes. Perhaps its the custom maps I downloaded. How can I delete them all?

Click the red X in Launcher Workshop, i think.
    My original nick is -Ner0-
    It's now banned after the
    latest update.

    Yep :)

or you can do it through your Steam client by going to your workshop subscriptions and removing your sub for each map.

You will also have to delete the maps from inside the UserMadeMaps folder here..

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\America's Army\AAPG\AAGame\CookedPC\UserMadeMaps

but only delete them AFTER you have unsubscribed otherwise they will start to download again.

The launcher is whats crashing. If it won't run.. you will have to do it with Steam.

how do I do this exactly, cant seem to find what I'm looking for because I'm unfamiliar with this.
Ok so I have found this workshop in steam after clicking on AA, I'm unsubscribing from these maps. Is that it?
Update: Unsubscribed from the 16 pages of maps. And attempted to open the game up and still no luck.

First off.. Have you even subscribed to any user made maps? its the same process to unsubscribe as it is to subscribe.

    Click Workshop here

    2wpm64j.jpg

then click on the Browse dropdown and choose 'subscribed items'

    2vnfg2u.jpg

then click on unsubscribe to all the maps in that list (these are the maps you have downloaded)

    166k4jq.jpg

last of all, go to your games install location and delete the UserMadeMaps folder.. you can see where to navigate on your own PC on the bar at the top (here is the path C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\America's Army\AAPG\AAGame\CookedPC\UserMadeMaps )

    ojnzpy.jpg

This is assuming User maps are the culprit. If not I don't know what else to tell you that could help :(

Ok I've deleted the folder and I've unsubscribed from all the maps. And to my dismay I still cant get the game to start for even a second before crashing still... But I do thank you for going out of your way to try and help solve my problem. Very helpful man thanks !

In my eyes I've only been helpful if you end up back playing the game. If not I will have wasted both our times

Since you said it 'was' working until you changed to the opt-in, Have you recently changed anything on your PC other than this game, for example installed or removed any software or drivers?

One more thing to try, I wonder if it generates a log? launch the game, wait for the crash then straight after have a look in

    C:\Users\Games\Documents\My Games\America's Army Proving Grounds\AAGame\Logs

    and look for AAClient

    15qzv6a.jpg

open it up in notepad and copy the whole log text.. and post it in a forum post. Maybe we can see whats going wrong that way.

It might be empty or be an older log, since you said it crashes almost instantly I'd be surprised if it even starts generating a new log.. but heck it's another thing to check.

I actually had the same problem when i installed the optin. its not about the launcher crashing. They for some reason moved the launcher from the binaries folder into the win32 folder for the optin. Theres another copy of the launcher located in the binaries folder but all of its dependencies are missing from that folder, causing it to crash on startup.
    -
Navigate to the win32 folder and launch the "aalauncher32.exe" located there.
If that works create a shortcut to that file and launch it that way.
    -
I have no idea why this happens but steam is "launching the wrong launcher" if that makes any sense.
You don't see the Phantom coming, if you feel my Bullets it's already too late.

Hey, my game crashes also always and i've deleted all folders according to uni-sol's suggestion, but it still crashes. But my next problem is that the log file is empty, I have only a AACLIENT BACKUP log which looks as follows:

Delete your Config files located in "Documents\My games\America's Army" Should fix it
    just delete the entire folder.
