I wouldnt call it normal but yes this is a common occurence, its just something causing an unhandled exception in the launcher. It will probably get fixed soon.

Try resetting your controls to default, it sounds like your key bindings might be a bit jacked up or something along those lines

That firemode glitch actually sounds pretty strange. I flip my fire mode at least 100 times a match and have never had this happen(i do it when im bored, or waiting for someone to turn a corner)
    -
Is there anything special you are doing leading up to this? Just saying it gets stuck sometimes doesn't help the DEVs figure out whats causing it. Bugs need to be reproducible so that they can figure out what exactly causes the problem.

i'd give my opinion on the opt-in but seeing as there are only euro servers to play in 85% of the time which i ping 180-220 in @ 1.5mbps d/l and 0.25 mbps u/l it's not possible.. only time there are any NA servers with players in them is between 5pm est and 12am est, and that's being generous, even at that sometimes there are no NA servers for the opt-in

this running both versions and making the old beta in the steam store the default download, is by far the most stupid idea yet. i've had old AAPG friends download AAPG from steam store, end up with the old beta, and think they're playing the new opt-in beta. BIGGEST waste of time and complete joke!

I can't even get a real feel for the game, right now all my friends on my steamlist are playing the old beta, i see at-least 2 full NA servers in old beta, and right now in the "new" opt-in beta there are 0 NA servers, and a few euro servers with players in them

don't give me the "its not peak hours" routine, because EVERY time i see 0 NA servers in the new opt-in beta, i see atleast 1-2 full NA servers in the old beta

this is by far the most stupidest decision I've seen made in this community dividing an already tiny community into an even smaller community. I can't even play the game in a euro server due to my internet speed..

and expecting someone to switch between 2 different "BETAS" is completely brutal just so they can try find a NA server with some players in it, it takes time to backup and restore the games it takes well over 10 minutes, and to download the old game for me will take 8-10 hours

    again completely stupid, stupid, stupid,
this is almost as stupid as the switch from 2.8.5 to 3

Status if you did any amount of reading in the forums, i and many others have outlined how to have both games on your computer at the SAME TIME without the need to download either more then one time. h,ell i even took the time out of my day the explain it step by step.
Stop complaining and make an actual contribution to the community.. eventually the game will merge into one branch, but for now the army brass and tops want it this way. The devs don't make executive decisions like that, and i am pretty sure they don't appreciate all the hate directed towards them when it is not their choice to make, let alone something they have any control over.

This game IS and ALWAYS will be a recruitment tool. If the ARMY says they want it done a certain way, by god they will do it that way. The DEVs dont work for you OR me. They take they feedback here into consideration, and pass it up the chain of command. They can't just make the game the way we all want it, they HAVE to make it the way the ARMY wants it done.
I'm not going to say i love the new optin, but its a work in progress and is still in active development. Things are highly subject to change. If you don't understand what a BETA is then maybe you should go back to the other MILLION plus shooter games that AREN'T still in active development and who's developers don't even respond to players emails/forum posts, instead of wasting everyone's time

Seems to me like a case of "can't please everyone" and "someone who can't stand not having everything their way" to me

I see no mention of status calling out the devs. He just said it's a bad decision. Certainly crass in his delivery, but that's bound to happen. I tend to agree with his outlook, regardless of the good reasons tots made on the subject. But you are right, it is the way it is. Doesn't mean people can't call things as they see them. Still I do agree that it would be better in trying to find ways to direct people to the opt-in rather than rage out on the forums.

That being said, this game isn't a recruitment tool. Recruiting is benefited by it's existence, certainly, but there are plenty of discussions about it's primary purpose on the forums. I suggest you take your own advice and read about it.

    Hello sir, excellent accuracy.

@-=D3G=-PhantomBuLit I am like totally glad you like to conform to the man, and not put forth or express your opinions dude! but like the last time i checked, the open beta is a beta as well, so maybe uhhh you should go look up the definition of beta... a beta of a game that's not even going to exist.. so to have a majority of the NA players playing the old open beta - giving little to no chance to get a feel and to be able to express an opinion of the new opt-in where the FUTURE focus is going to be is stupid, I don't care who made the decision, it's a stupid stupid decision..
For every company i have ever worked for if I think the management or boss has a bad idea, or it seems counter productive - I straight up tell my boss/management why I feel it's a bad idea, and explain why i feel it's a bad idea, and list off some ideas that could be better, or make it better.. as a contractor or construction worker not doing this would result in your company going bankrupt, or having a very disappointed client base..

If this is truly catered to be a recruitment tool, then why have all the learning and training segments been stripped of the game that were in 1/2.. Just because as an marine corps active duty, you have been trained to follow orders, regardless of the orders - doesn't mean i have to, because outside of the army, people actually think for themselves, and make and follow their own paths.. Just because you buy, and standby what the devs feed you and you happily oblige and never express concern doesn't mean I have to hold your hand and do the same... alright brother?..Hooah?

If i had any interest in playing the open beta ( which i haven't for a few months, 10-15 hours played at the most in the last 3 months of open beta for me) I would look for ways to have both games installed, but since I have 0 interest in the open beta, i don't care to play it or install it,

quote@-=D3G=-PhantomBuLit "Seems to me like a case of "can't please everyone" and "someone who can't stand not having everything their way" to me"
actually quite the opposite, I've stated so many ideas, in so many different ways, and approaches, and backed up so many ideas, that were backed by so many players, why do i come across as hasty?
why? because of the countless ideas and input and bug report issues, i've had with 0 official response from any dev, and 0 help from anyone, in the old forums i would constantly back up ideas by shhfiftyfive, doba, colts, hyperlite, and many more just to name a few, as well as some of my ideas, which were the same or similar as many of theirs, and I never saw ANY of those ideas implemented or even tried in game..actually i stand corrected, they finally slowed down the strafe speed when anchored, but in the opt-in not in the open beta.. and that came after many many months of bringing up anchored strafe speed.

Seems like me to be a case of, "lets support the man, no matter how stupid the idea or process is, there's no way that process can be changed or questioned or tried a different way."

Seems to me like you should go back and read the forum archives, hooah soldier?

Edit: Also most of the players who play this game don't visit the forums, and new players especially won't having a 2 beta game system will just further confuse new players, so how do you suggest they figure this out? i cater my post's mostly toward player retention and to speak on behalf of those who don't or can't. because i actually want to play an american game (the opt-in version) that ACTUALLY has an NA server that i can play in, is that too much to ask?.

The game isn't a recruitment tool or at least not primarily one and hasn't been marketed as one since the days of the Iraq War. For example, I believe AA SF was made in order to get interest in the special forces since the Army was looking to double SF units at the time.

Anyway, at this point, the game doesn't have a ton of Army type material unless you want to talk about the little videos that play in between maps loading. In AA1/2 we had all of these training missions and stuff that taught people about Army values, different roles, and all sorts of things. Those things were hardly in AA3 and are pretty much non-existent in AAPG. I honestly, don't know how to consider any version of America's Army after the original game as a PR/recruitment tool or propaganda device. Does this game really do much to shed light on the Army and how it functions in a way that other games that depict the military do not?

I think the aspect of the game that's used internally by the Army has more to do with this game still being in existence than them putting the game out for publicity or to gain recruits.

    Update on Gameservers front
They finally installed it on one of our servers.. but the support really took their time.
So if you are with Gameservers, just open a ticket and ask them to switch your server to opt-in

    Cheers,

I'm sorry to say, opt-in is not good! The sound is not true it is, for example, echo the parts that it should not sound like walking around with metal shoes.
Since it sounds more of a gun from the other side of the map than your own.
And what have you done with the feeling? It is reminiscent of AAPG standard but lacking something still can not really understand what.
Think you should go back more to the Standard version, instead of doing a "new" game of it.

Could it be that the opt-in = AA3 and AAPG-Default = AA2. Ah there we have it, never liked AA3 :)

For me it almost feels like Standard Ver is almost complete in the feeling of the game, just fix some bugs and skip paper cardboard maps and it's would be done.

Yes, the sound still needs some work but it is the best it has ever been for AAPG

Yeah I have to admit that my experiences last night (short of the game crashes every 4ish rounds, which likely is related to my tight memory timings I need to dial back) weren't nearly as bad as my initial thoughts on sound. Still think footsteps are weird and there are some inconsistencies in distance, but the weapon sounds were better. Don't like the ranged sound of gunfire, feel like there should be more crack to it, but otherwise it was solid overall. Didn't really have any issues with the rest of the gameplay. Like the reduced strafe in supported, hopefully they can clean up the model view so they look at you accordingly, but otherwise a huge improvement. The more I play it the more I think it's much better than the open beta.

m249 is pretty LOL as far as recoil and ease of use, but that's long been discussed and will either be changed or not. Since it's a limited role it's hard to say it's OP, but it wasn't that difficult to get kills unscoped at range and that to me seems like a pretty big issue.

Forget all that nonsense.. I'm disappointed they never entertained hand signals or voice callouts..

.. I do like the 3 round burst M16 now, a lot better once i realized it was changed I thought my mouse button was broke/sticking :)

3 burst M16 can still be shot randomly as an auto with multiple clicks... I though they fixed that. Maybe I'm mistaken.

Gun shots at a distance sound like popcorn popping.
    Guns are a little loud.
Footsteps are inconsistent, at times I hear nicely, other times they come right next to me without making a peep.. this would never happen in Open beta.
    M4 sound still not acceptable.
Not sure how long ppl been saying M249 has no recoil.

If you were to fix these the overall impression would be much better. I don't think it's asking for a lot

Because of Internet issues, I only just got to put this Opt-In through its paces.

Because I got to see where this all came from, I will say this - all the work the Devs have done since the sound engine redux has got us to a pretty playable spot! If you people only knew what it started out like!!! :o

The issues that have been presented - stutters, sound issues - ya, I saw those last night but it was pretty playable.

Really looking forward to some more refinements and full servers!

A FEEDBACK reminder, folks: If you see something wrong don't just say "I don't like it." Give the Devs something useful like what went wrong, where and WHAT YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE LIKE. General feedback isn't anywhere near as good as a specific report the Devs can work with! They build task lists for priority items from stuff that's repeatable and clearly described.

I have had many people try to come me and complain about the sound being bad in the opt-in and I ask them why they say not hearing footsteps, So then I ask them about there hardware sound card or not etc. I've only helped people with sound cards and the problem was they had their sound setup wrong. Once I give them my sound settings even with eq settings or not. They immediately tell me how much better it is, and soon realize the potential of the sound engine like most of us do.
