Well, at present, almost all manufacturers of AK-type weapon stopped producing the 7.62mm military assault rifles (only the semi-auto civilian AK derivatives are being produced), except for the newest AK-103 which is being made in limited numbers by the IZHMASH in Russia.
AK-103
| Quote: |
Caliber, mm: 7.62x39
Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt with 2 lugs
Length, mm: overall: 943; w/folded butt 700;
Barrel Length, mm: 415
Sighting range,m: 1000
Machine gun weight, g: 3,400
Magazine capacity, rds: 30
Rate of fire, rds/min: 600
Back to the future... Comeback of the 7.62mm cartridges is inspired by some weak points of low-impulse 5.45/5.56mm loads. More powerful than its predescent AK-74, this rifle employs many of today's new technologies.

Maybe in the future, this gun will replace the AK-47 in this game, hehe. You guys got any thoughts on this gun?

That gun looks alot better than the AK-47. Hopefully they switch to that in the near future cause the current m16a2 and AK-47 models seem too old in AA now.

That would be nice. And if I recall correctly, the U.S. Army no longer uses the M16A2, but now the M16A4. It would be nice to see these changes, but not right away. Give it a good four or five months. ;)

well, are our opponents terrorists or foreign troops? because i'm not sure if terrorists are gonna bother trying to get the brand spanking new rifles or are going to stick with the hordes of cheap black market 47's?

I think the OpFor should not only be 3rd-world poorly armed terrorists, but heavily armed foreign troops of some made-up other 1st world country as well, in some maps anyways.

There isn't a hell of a lot of visual difference between the A2 and A4, so you probably wouldn't notice it much in game.
And as for it being phased out in favor of the M4/XM-8...I guess once it becomes more mainstream we can expect to see it. Wait until some of our boys are called home...

What's the difference between the A2 and the A4? Is the A4 full auto?

In the past message board I made a post about this. Right now they seem to show the people we are fighting as terrorists (and people, it is just obvious). In some maps, this probably fits the best. I am sure that this is well suited in the MILES maps, and some others. But having a made-up army would be great; make them really look as though they are sophisticated. This would make it where you are not always fights some terrorists. In certain maps, like Bridge/SE and Radio Tower, why would there be terrorists? Hehe. However, in maps like SF Rescue/Hospital I can understand the OpFor being terrorists instead of an army.

I think the M60E4 is more of a vehicle/helicopter mounted machine gun.
