Hi there, Im thinking of creating my own clan on AA, bases around mainly pipeline and WC. I have an official server: 217.163.26.47 which is currently on WC.
I have been in a few clans before but im not sure how to make websites....
Is there anyone who could set me up a website to use for my clan with forums too. I want my clan to be called Perfect Gamers.
Your best option is if webspace is avaliable with your server, to research and learn the process yourself. Giving someone access to your webspace FTP and cpanel is not exactly a smart idea on a security level.
Perhaps some users can post him some tutorial links. I know gameservers has a whole section on their forums.
There are many places out there that offer free webhosting. I really recommend www.joomla.org as a platform. It is easy to use and fairly powerful when you consider the add-ons that are available. It is also completely free. ;)

To install it just place the files in a directory (folder) in the folder www . Call it clans
Then go to PHP my admin
Create a new data base and call it clans
Then go into the main browser and open the clans folder, or type in http://localhost/clans/
follow the prompts and bam you have a demo site to play with on your own PC. (just for testing so you can learn, check out extensions and learn how to instal things, set them up....)
Go to a hosting site. pay the dosh for half decent server (about $80 pa with domain as .org will suffice, just make sure you have PHP Python linux server with MySQL)
Then once you get all that, repeat what you learned at home and are confident do the same thing on the live server.
But usually Fantasico will manage installing Joomla and SMF quite well.
FTP is usually for adding addons like images and updates..
Joomla is a snap to operate, has big and growing clan base, will not do your head in like PHPnuke and has a massive community...SMF is faster and more secure than phpBB but not as feature rich as Vbullitin.
And this is what I can do here.....(after 2 years- I made the template skin for all 3 pieces of software..I had never used web pages before I joined. Its amazing where AA will take you)
3 rules.
Make backups regularly
make backups when you upgrade and change things in the code, template or addons.
Change the passwords often but not before upgrading what you can and not before you make a backup.
If anything goes wrong.
Upload the backup. and you have your website back in under 4 min....
If you can register a business, use the fees as a tax deduction and make a little money selling add space...
