I can now access AA with Win98se
For all Win98 users please follow these tips.
1. Install patch or full download.
2. Do not use your old USER.INI. file (you will have to reset your keys the way you want them)
3. Open game up and go to deployment/internet. All servers should show up. Try to join a server. It will tell you Unable to load user.
4. Go to persenal jacket, type in your "user name and password". uncheck auto load then hit load.(it will not load your profile, but it will hang)
5. Go back to deployment and retry to join a server, if like me it will load that server and your in.
6. Every time you open AA you "dont need to login" in P/Jacket, but check to make sure your user name and password are there.(save profile button checked) Go to deployment / internet . From there you use the filter for the map you want and join it.
As for user keys we might have to use the default keys untill the devs get this win98se/me login sorted.

Ps can you moderators make this a sticky?

Excellent find!
But this will not work for me with a fresh install of 2.5 (both patch and full). Still gives me the "required training not complete" message on all servers that I try to join.
However, if I use [Dev] Null's console workaround first to get on to any online server:
http://forum.americasarmy.com/...=190271
Once I exit that server, I can then join any server on the "Deployment" screen simply by clicking "Join", in the usual fashion.
Log-in in "Personnel Profile" will still hang at "loading", but that is apparently then irrelevant as far as joining servers is concerned once you've successfully logged on to that first server after 2.5 installation.
It works.

Issue:
Windows 98 and Windows ME users can't load their personnel jacket.
Workaround:
Join servers by IP via the game console.
1) Attempt to load your personnel jacket
2) After a few seconds, open the game console (tilde key)
3) type:
open x.x.x.x
where 'x' are the IP address octets for the server you're trying to join
Issue:
You receive an error message stating that the auth. server may be down, or that you need additional training. (Any OS.)
Workaround:
Same as issue noted above.
Alternately, and a better long-term solution:
Uninstall AA, remove all traces of the game left-over by the uninstaller (folders and registry entries), and then reinstall from a full version download. You cannot save your user.ini, only the keybinds found inside it.
Issue:
You cannot authenticate via the Personnel Jacket, and your game name is more 20 or more characters long.
Workaround:
Via account management webpage, shorten your game name so that is is less than or equal to 19 characters.
Notes:
-o These are the auth-related issues that we're currently aware of. At this point, it's unknown if there will be a better solution to any of these challenges.
-o It's a vicious rumor that auth hates brackets and/or braces now. Auth loves brackets. Auth also enjoys long walks on the beach, and sipping cocoa by the fire on a cold winter's night.
-o Also a vicious rumor that nobody is listening, or cares. <3 |

Windows ME/98 operating systems are no longer supported. Existing Win98/ME users will be grandfathered in with the new patch. New users downloading America's Army for the first time on these operating systems will not be able to play. |
